Wanhua District History

District History:

《Mankah》 Wanhua, the representative of Taipei City used to be called.
 

《Mankah》 The name is supposed to originate from transliteration of Pinpu Kaidagran tribe. In 1709, Chen Lai-chang took the lead to live here with his villagers from Fu Chien(Mainland China). As they saw a lot of wood for boats gathering there, so they named the place 《Mankah》.In China when people settleling new place,they will build temple.Most of the temples in the Mankah area were built some 200 years ago. The huge size of these temples explains that it used to be the local religious, social and economical center.
 

Mankah District is oldest development area in Taipei.
 

For this reason,Mankah have many history building,traditional commercial street ,attractive culture and friendly neighborhood
